Artistic Director, Jennifer Townsend

Born and bred in Fort McMurray, Jennifer graduated from Keyano College with a diploma in performance. She received a BFA in Performance Creation from Concordia University in Montreal. There, she worked as an educator of young artists with Geordie Theatre. In the past, she has worked as a Program Coordinator and Assistant Director for Theatre; Just Because in Fort McMurray, and her directorial debut landed her the outstanding director award in the ADFA Regional One-Act Festival. She is happy to be back on Alberta soil, and excited and honored to be part of RuminariLive!

Art Director, James Tarrant

James Tarrant, our Chief of Operations and Art Director, considered a radical in his works of fine art. His is a life long process of experimentation and innovation using reality as a means and not an end.

James brings a viewpoint that encompasses artistic topicality with philosophical and cultural movement and manifestation. He holds a BA in Painting with a minor in Drawing from the Alberta University of Art. James has worked in the Physical Theatre world for over two decades and brings a true eye to original works presentation.

Managing Director, Hunter Gates

Our founder, Hunter Gates is a director, actor, stuntman, theatre-maker, and educator. She specializes in movement as well as devised theatre performance. Hunter has more ‚Äč‚Äčthan 30 years of experience in professional and community theatre, film, and television. She trained in physical theatre at the School of Physical Theatre in Toronto. She holds a Ph.D. in theatre philosophy, a Pedagogical certificate in Physical Theatre, and a certificate in Stunt Performance and teaching. Hunter also has extensive experience in stage combat.

Her performance and teaching experience abroad includes work in Egypt, Greece, South Africa, and the Caribbean. She has also performed and taught across Canada. She launched her post-university theatre career in Montreal at the Just for Laughs Festival. She was the founding artistic director (1996 to 2016) of The Hunter Gates Academy of Physical Theatre, a school specializing in training, new-play creation, and international collaborations. Dr. Gates provides artistic innovation and dedication to the voice and spirit of the community.

Hunter specializes in the creation of programs for seniors, adults, and at-risk youth.
